Ostia was founded in 355BC as a military base and successively became one of the most important commercial ports for the supply of grain to Ancient Rome. The Ostian excavations began in 1802 and give us a true and precise picture of an urbanistic settlement during the Ancient Roman period. Starting from the Roman Gate and proceeding along the main road – Decumanus Maximus – we will visit the ancient Necropolis, Piazzale Della Vittoria, Neptune’s Baths with its fine mosaics, the Firemen’s Barracks and the theater built for Agrippa.
